Completing surgery clearance tests is a bit easier in the Greater Lansing area. MSU Cardiology offers walk-in EKG or electrocardiogram testing Monday – Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. with a doctor’s order.
EKG, sometimes known as ECG, tests are often part of the clearance tests surgeons order to understand the state of a patients’ health prior to surgery. While the no appointment format is ideal for presurgical patients to complete their testing, it is available for all patients 5 years of age and older, with a doctor’s order.
Your test will be completed, then read by our board-certified cardiologist and the results sent to your surgeon.

George Abela, MD, MBA, MSc, is the Cardiology Division Chief and a clinician scientist who treats patients in East Lansing and conducts research. His work has demonstrated for the first time the underlying mechanism of how cholesterol expands in volume when crystallizing and tears up the arterial wall causing heart attacks.
